Snowball Christmas Tree

What do all these crocheted balls together lead to.....

A snowball tree!!

This tree came to mind after seeing one at a local shopping center the last several years.  This one isn't exactly like that one but similar. The balls are crocheted in halves then after stiffening around 1 1/2" foam balls the halves are fabric glued together then after all 53 !!!  balls are made they are hot glued together around a 9" cone base just for forming.  The cone is later removed and a battery light string can be inserted if desired.  It is very pretty at night with the lights shining thru.  A 3-D star is placed on top as well.  The finished size is 15 1/4" x 7 1/4.  The pattern is available in my Etsy store, Ravelry store and also my Craftsy store.  Click on the links above to get your digital download pattern today!!  There's still time to get one made and what's wrong with a white tree to have around all winter as well!!

Interweave Crochet Accessories 2016 Issue

Three of my designs were chosen to be included in the 2016 Interweave Crochet Accessories issue that just came out.

The Harlequin Cowl is worked in rows of shells but when the cowl is blocked they end up turning into little squares.  It would be pretty in several colors or a solid color and more rows can be added to make a longer cowl or the ends don't have to be joined to make a scarf as well!!

The Triple Ripple Cowl has buttons across the end which slip into the pattern holes on the opposite end to make a cowl or leave open as a scarf. It could also be twisted and buttoned for a different look. The scarf/cowl can be worked in many colors or a solid color would be nice as well.

There are also matching fingerless mitts to go along with the scarf in the same pattern.  The scarf has a 4 row repeat the mitts are a 2 row repeat.

To get your copy of this awesome magazine go to
or check it out at your local craft store.  It is packed full of great designs!!

Snowman Candle Holders

A little change of pace from crochet I finally got these snowman candleholders finished.  I think it was May when I got them cut out and it took a day to paint them and a day to put the finishing touches and glue on everything.  Must be getting old I used to whip these things out in no time!!!  The Burkittsville craft show is two months from tomorrow so I'd better get it in gear and get my gourds painted as slow as I am it will be here before I know it!!!

Ready to go....

I took my Great Frederick Fair entries in yesterday.  Some of them are the same as were entered in the state fair and there are a few different ones, too since the Frederick fair has a few different categories than the state fair does.  In all there are 12 entries.  Will show the results when I have them.......

Pineapple Doily

I made this doily recently for a good friend who happens to be Rick's cousin.  She saw it on the internet and I saw that it was from a vintage crochet book from 1946.  I thought it looked familiar so  I got out my vintage books and sure enough the pattern was in it!!  It worked up pretty fast in size 30 thread with a size 10 hook. It took less than a ball of thread!!  Rick wanted me to keep it and enter it in the fair but I wanted to get it to her before anything happened to it!!  She is very happy with her doily and I was very happy to be able to make it for her!!  Enjoy Brenda :)

Heirloom Doily

A friend recently gave me these small motifs that her grandmother had made years ago asking for advise on how to turn them into a doily.  We laid them out different ways and she took pictures for reference.  She had never crocheted with thread before and she tried to join them together but she said she wasn't comfortable crocheting with thread and asked me if I would join them together for her.  So I laid them out and looked at them a while and asked her if she minded if I added a round to the one that was a bit smaller than the others and if I could make 3 more of the tiny ones to fill in at the corners.  She said she didn't care so I used Aunt Lydia's Antique White to do the crochet work since it matched up with the older motifs better.  I can't tell now which ones I added to and which ones are original!!  The color matched up so well!!  I

So I cheated a bit and tied the motifs together weaving in the ends to secure them tightly.  Then I took the red she had given me and went around the outside edge of them all joining them together.  The first border I tried had too many stitches in it to lay flat so that one got ripped out....then I came up with the shells and picots border which ended up tying them in nicely with the designs in the motifs.

And here is the finished product!!  It is much prettier than the photo makes it look it's a little dull in this picture the lighting was bad but I think over all it turned out really nice.  Can't wait for her to see it in person!!  She loved the picture I sent her.
